Fusion Dance Night – May edition

Stay home.
Support our venue Flor de Fango.
Dance online with our friends from Barcelona!

In other times we would have had our next Fusion Dance Night this Saturday. But the best dance we can currently give each other is a dance at home.

Our beautiful dance venue Flor de Fango (a non-profit foundation run by volunteers) has the challenge to pay the bills without income. Fusion Dance Nights (Adrian and Marijn) will continue to pay 50% of the rent for each party we’d normally would have organised. We’d appreciate if you’d donate half of your entrance fee to Flor as well. Together we can preserve this unique dance floor for the future. How to donate: https://flordefango.nl/nieuws/drie-tips-om-te-genieten/ or send us a message.

Meanwhile our fusion friends from Barcelona are organising a Zoom/Youtube Fusion house party! They have prepared a wonderful menu with artists, dancers and surprises. Check out their Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1565570936957089/

Class descriptions
How to Get Along at a Fusion Dance (13:30-15:30 @ Huis van Puck)

In each dance form there are basic assumptions both partners come in with that make the dance flow. We’ll cover a sampling of these expectations that you might encounter to both expand your technique toolbox and to give you a fresh look at what you might already be doing. Our goal is for you to be able to both recognize and alter your default patterns.

Endless Possibilities (15:30-17:30 @ Huis van Puck)

Drawing together multiple dance styles means even more ways to connect and move, and all that open-endedness can be intimidating! Let’s dig into where we can find opportunities for new ideas (especially from the follow!) without getting lost in the endless possibilities.

So What is Fusion Anyway? (19:30 – 20:30 @ Flor de Fango)

What does it mean to “fuse”? What does it mean to be a “fusion dancer”? This class will be both theory and practical (we’ll move a lot and talk!), covering some of the main ways we think about fusing styles of music and movement.

Her multi-layered experiences range from world travel for ice skating and contemporary dance, professional ballroom and Latin shows, competing at blues, lindy, and west coast swing exchanges, stage combat certifications, commercial music videos, and even burlesque. She has both her Undergraduate and Graduate degrees in Dance.

Andrew

AndrewTeaching internationally for over a decade, he draws upon his experience in social, vernacular, and classical dances to inspire and challenge his students. What is Fusion Dance?

Fusion dance is a type of contemporary American partner dance that combines different dance styles to create a new aesthetic. It is typically an improvised, lead-follow approach to dancing that does not conform to any particular defined dance styles. Fusion dancing may involve creating a new dance style, combining existing styles, or both.
Fusion dance may employ any dance technique, or arbitrary combination of techniques, associated with any type of dance. It usually incorporates dance partnering techniques such as connection, extension-compression, and frame, and may also utilize other techniques such as ballet technique, contact improvisation, and popping.
Fusion dancing emphasizes musicality. The music style may influence a fusion dancer’s choice of dance style. For example, a dancer might employ popping in response to hip hop music. [source: wikipedia]
